Here, João Cabral shares his personal vision of the Douro River banks and the terraced wine culture that shapes this mythical landscape — the birthplace of Port wine. Vineyards carved into steep hillsides unfold in dramatic tiers, bearing witness to centuries of patient labor and craftsmanship passed down from generation to generation. The subtle interplay of light and shadow reveals the raw beauty of this valley, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

About the photographer
João Cabral lives and works in the Porto region (Portugal). He studied photography at the Portuguese Institute of Photography after earning a degree in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto.
For him, this academic background was essential to approach classical photography through light, drawing, and composition.
He first explored landscape photography, but his focus has gradually shifted toward street and documentary photography. His current body of work follows a systematic approach to black-and-white photography, architecture, and street scenes, creating timeless images shaped by imagination, memory, childhood, and the passing of time.
