These bags are made by the elder artisans of the village of Castanheira Alcobaça, brought together by local son Nuno Barreiro. A true, authentic story!
The reed grows wild in the region—no fertilizers, no pesticides—just a bit of effort to harvest it.
Sorting and drying are entirely manual and local: no chemicals, no transport, no machines.
Weaving is also done locally. The village artisans share a workshop and take turns fulfilling orders.
Assembly, finishing, and quality control: not a single bag leaves the workshop without being thoroughly inspected by the village elders.
