Ferreira I Red Ruby Port - 75cl is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
This Ruby Port comes from selected grape varieties of the Douro region. It presents a beautiful red colour with golden hues and offers fresh, delicate aromas reminiscent of spices and dried fruits, developed during ageing in oak barrels.
On the palate, it is an elegant Port showing a fine balance between ripe tannins and sweetness, with an attractive and long finish.
This Port is perfect with caramel or coffee-based desserts, apple tarts, traditional custards… It also pairs beautifully with strong or blue cheeses such as Roquefort. It is equally excellent as an aperitif when served slightly chilled.
Why I love it

- A Port with fresh and delicate aromas.
- A superb balance between intensity and smoothness.

Founded in 1751 by the Ferreira da Régua family, producers and traders of Port wine, Ferreira is the only Port wine company that has always remained in Portuguese hands. It grew significantly during the 18th century by acquiring and cultivating some of the finest quintas in the Douro. This remarkable work continued in the 19th century under Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira (a direct descendant of the Ferreira family). Under her leadership, Ferreira reached an exceptional level, continually investing in new and better vineyards, more efficient production processes, careful wine ageing and the preservation of old wine stocks.

Tawny Port or Ruby Port?
Ruby Port ages in oak barrels for 2 to 3 years. With limited contact with the wood and low oxidation, it preserves its original taste. It is therefore a young and fruity wine with wild berry notes and an intense flavour. As its evolution potential is not very high, it should be opened within 3 to 5 years after bottling.
Tawny Port ages in oak barrels for 2 to 3 years and is then transferred to French oak casks. Due to its prolonged contact with the wood, it ages more quickly, undergoes marked oxidation and develops more complex flavours of dried fruits such as figs or walnuts. It is a less intense and sweeter wine, with a noticeable wood presence. Tawny has great ageing potential and can mature in the bottle for decades.
