Totally unclassifiable and almost impossible to find outside Portugal, this utensil belongs to that rare category of simple objects that tell a way of living.
Placed directly on a barbecue, it turns chestnut roasting into a ritual. The flame passes through the openings, heat rises gently, steam is trapped inside, and the lid holds just the right amount of moisture. Nothing is rushed. Everything is balanced.
The chestnuts roast without drying out. Their skins darken slightly, while the flesh stays tender, warm, and fragrant. You crack them open while they’re still hot, using your fingers, and time seems to slow down.
A humble object, designed for one precise purpose, faithful to the Portuguese spirit: keep it simple, but do it right.

How to roast chestnuts?
-
Light a barbecue and wait for the embers to appear without flames.
-
Split the skin of each chestnut on its rounded side.
-
Place the chestnut grill on the barbecue grill as close as possible to the embers.
-
Pour the chestnuts into the chestnut grid.
-
Stir regularly thanks to the two handles of the utensil.
-
Chestnuts are cooked when they split and the tip of a knife easily penetrates them.
